Maximilian Schmitt, tenor
Gerold Huber, piano
The young tenor Maximilian Schmitt obtained his
first vocal training as a member of the Regensburg
Domspatzen. As of 1999, he began studying voice
with Prof. Anke Eggers at Berlin’s University of Arts.
In 2005 and 2006 he was a member of the young
ensemble at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and
gained further experience in master classes held by
Ann Murray and Robert Dean Smith.
Maximilian Schmitt has been an ensemble member
of the Mannheim State Theater since the 2008/2009
season and has sung roles such as David (Meistersinger)
and lyric Mozart roles like Tamino, Don Ottavio or
Ferrando.
In addition to his passion for opera, his activities
as a concert singer are gaining increasing importance
He has worked together with such conductors
as Andrew Manze, Daniel Harding, Thomas
Hengelbrock, Leopold Hager, Ulf Schirmer, Marcus
Creed, Trevor Pinnock and Helmuth Rilling.
In the area of Lied, he regularly works together
with Gerold Huber, who has gained an international
reputation as the accompanist of Christian Gerhaher,
for example.
This CD of Schumann songs based on texts
by Heinrich Heine documents the cooperation of
the two. The two major cycles Dichterliebe and
Liederkreis op. 24 are complemented by three compositions
by Clara Schumann.
