IGOR STRAVINSKY (1882–1971)
SYMPHONY IN E-FLAT MAJOR, OP. 1
SUITES NOS. 1 & 2 FOR CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra
Dmitri Kitayenko, conductor
Dmitri Kitayenko has been Music Advisor of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra since the
2011/12 season. And if there is something with which Maestro Kitayenko has a special affinity,
it is the Russian repertoire. It was not surprising, therefore, that he decided on Stravinsky for
the first recording of this cooperation between the Orchestra and our label. This recording includes
his very first work, the Symphony in E-flat major, as well as the rarely performed Suites 1 & 2 orchestrated
by Stravinsky during the years 1921 and 1925. These works for chamber orchestra, however,
were originally composed from 1914 to 1920 during the composer’s years of exile in Switzerland.
