In almost no time at all, Konrad Jarnot has made a
name for himself as one of the foremost lied interpreters
of the younger generation. His first CDs featured
unusual contrasts of material as well as seldom-heard
repertoire. In his most recent recordings, he shows
that he can also bring essential impulses to the major
standard repertoire. After “Die Schöne Müllerin”, Jarnot
now sings Schubert’s “Winterreise”, in which his
strengths are especially prominent: absolute clarity of
text hand-in-hand with an interpretation that develops
from the sound itself. This, in turn, is characterized
by breathtaking control throughout the entire
dynamic spectrum.
