The Dichterliebe is considered the apogee of the romantic
art song. Many great interpreters have set standards
of excellence with it. The present recording with Arnold
Bezuyen brings us the complete Dichterliebe including
the four songs eliminated before printing with
the following titles:
Dein Angesicht so lieb und schön (Your Countenance, So Dear and Lovely), No. 5
Lehn’ deine Wang’ an meine Wang’ (Lean Your Cheek on My Cheek), No. 6
Es leuchtet meine Liebe (My Love Shines), No. 15 Mein Wagen rollet langsam
(My Wagon Rolls Slowly), No. 16
The Dichterliebe cycle is completed by the Sieben Frühe
Lieder (Seven Early Songs) of Alban Berg.
The Dutch tenor Arnold Bezuyen has already appeared
internationally on the stages of the Teatro alla
Scala di Milano, in Los Angeles, at the Bayreuth Festival,
the Covent Garden Opera and the Vienna State
Opera; he made his MET-Debut in New York last
season as Loge under Fabio Luisi.
