Victoria and Her Hussar is a rare pearl of the glamorous
revue-operetta that is not often presented. Even
in Mörbisch, this piece could only be heard twice: in
1960 and most recently in 1973, over forty years ago
with Johannes Heesters, amongst others. This does
no harm to the popularity of the melodies, however:
“Meine Mama war aus Yokohama”, “Mausi, süß warst
du heute Nacht”, “Reich mir zum Abschied noch einmal
die Hände” and “Pardon, Madame” are just a few
of the evergreens that invite listeners to sing along.
