Heidrun Hensel, organ
On her recording of organ works of Southern German composers of the 16th and 17th centuries, Heidrun Hensel illuminates masters who were under the influence of Italian and French models. Hensel performs on a modern organ particularly suited for interpretations of Southern German baroque organ music: the Ahrend organ at St. Jodok’s in Landshut, Germany. Born in 1930, organ builder Jürgen Ahrend has restored some of the most important organs in the world, developing his own style in the process and applying it above all to instruments in Northern Germany. In restoring the Landshut organ, he adapted his work to the musical language of Southern German Catholic organ music.
Heidrun Hensel studied sacred music and organ in Munich and completed her master class diploma with Professor Klemens Schnorr. She plays harpsichord
with several baroque ensembles and is the artistic director of the concert series “Musica Rara”, which she founded as well.
